Shot in a way that builds suspense, the alien effectively terrifies the audience and represents the most primal human fears. Many people can picture the alien erupting from a poor man's body and the cold, dark face drooling just inches from Weaver's face. Alien also has an adequate sequel called Aliens.
This movie fits under the category of being so bad it's good. This cheesy, campy story set in space gives us the pinnacle of campy science fiction movies. The sets are bad, the acting is bad, and the story is bad. However, it all works so perfectly. You can't take the movie to seriously, but it provides entertainment for people who appreciate the style. It also has one of the best theme songs of all time thanks to the rock band Queen.
This uber violent flick tells the story of a cop who gets gunned down only to return as more machine than man whether he wanted it or not. The upgrades make him the ultimate killing machine, but the human element means he may not use his powers for good. However, will he be able to hold on to that human element and maintain a family life? Robocop may not be suitable for the kids, but it's a fun experience. Be sure to watch the original as opposed to the remake.
Marvel takes some superheroes (or antiheroes) to space in Guardians of the Galaxy. From the very first scene of Chris Pratt dancing to the first song in a fantastic soundtrack, you know that the movie will take you on a journey you won't want to end. The creatures and the universe holds up to the best out there, and the acting makes it all come to life.
Love it or hate it, Stanley Kubrick took his anal retentive style to space in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The simple story serves as a platform for one of the most stylistically impressive movies on the list. Every shot meets Kubrick's strict guidelines, making it best for a large screen. Looking back, it's incredible to imagine that this happened a year before man first landed on the moon.
Metropolis takes us back to the golden age of cinema, showing that man always had an interest in science fiction. It tells the story of a futuristic society in peril and includes metaphors about society in 1927 as well as religion. It was a cinematic feat when nit came out, but it received mixed reviews for the long run time. Watching it today proves that some movies don't need a remake.
Steven Spielberg introduced us to a young Drew Barrymore in this adorable and heartwarming flick about kids who find an alien and attempt to save him from the evil adults who want to study him and hurt him. Who can forget the image of the bike flying with the alien in the basket and the full moon in the background? ET takes us home back to our childhood.
Matrix brought us a brand new style that no one had ever seen before with the iconic bullet dodging and fashion. An innocent man Neo becomes the chosen one and learns the truth about the world we live in- that it's all a façade known as the Matrix. If you take the red pill and dive into the movie, you will get a wild ride with a great story.
Naturally, Star Wars finds a place at the very top of the list (at least the original trilogy). George Lucas gave us one of the most enthralling universes and dynamic characters in this soap opera set in space. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo work with Princess Leia to stop the evil Darth Vader from taking over the universe with plenty of character drama along the way. The acting was so good that most of the cast couldn't break away from the stigma of the movie, but they probably got paid enough to never need another acting gig, anyway. Viewers can decide for themselves how the next two trilogies in the series hold up.
Watch the Governator in all his glory in the best work of his career in one of the best sequels in history, Terminator 2. This classic story of a superhuman creature sent to earth provides plenty of action as well as some of the greatest catchphrases in movie history. Asta la vista, baby!
